Today,the United States is recognized as a major educational and technological power in the world.In American language classrooms,technology and education have become intimately connected.The widespread use of science and technology in American classrooms has driven many scholars to study the use of learning apps,while the domestic research on this area is still lagging behind.The author served as a volunteer Chinese teacher in the Confucius institute in Missouri for one year,and observed that several emerging learning apps were widely used in the World language exploration class of Smithton middle school.This paper takes Quizlet,Pear deck and Kahoot as the main research objects to analyze the application of these learning apps in language teaching in detail.This paper is divided into four parts:the first chapter is the introduction of this paper,mainly introduces the research background and significance of this paper,research content and research methods,and research status at home and abroad.Chapter two gives a brief introduction to the Confucius Institute of Missouri and the Chinese exploration course in Smithton middle school,and summarizes the teaching characteristics of the Chinese exploration course in Smithton middle school,such as the emphasis on interest cultivation,practicality and technology interaction.The third chapter analysis the three used in American classroom learning app-Quizlet,Kahoot and Pear deck,based on analysis of apps’ features and advantages and disadvantages of comparative analysis,then summarizes each app’s goal:Quizlet is for vocabulary teaching,and we can also use Quizlet to practice phrases and sentences;knowledge can be quickly recalled is more suitable for Kahoot;Pear deck,a fully functional classroom interactive system,is more suitable for meaningful and deeper problems discuss;The fourth chapter takes three teaching examples of Smithton middle school,conducts case analysis and reflection from the perspective of using learning app,proposes the design basis of case redesign,and carries out case redesign based on case analysis.The fifth chapter firstly establishes several principles for judging the advantages and disadvantages of apps and choosing learning apps to assist classroom teaching:operation principle,limitation principle,privacy protection principle and pertinence principle;The feasibility of using three learning apps in domestic classrooms is preliminarily explored.The main problems need to be solved,such as interactive whiteboard,WI-FI access,iPad for each student,and the development of domestic learning apps.Finally,several suggestions on using learning app to assist classroom teaching were put forward to teachers at home and abroad.1.Improve the awareness of using learning app to assist teaching;2.Rational use of learning apps to avoid excessive reliance on scientific and technological apps;3.Comprehensive application of multiple learning apps according to teaching tasks;4.Creatively ask students to design learning app content.The important difference between language learning classrooms in the 21st century and traditional classroom lies in the application of science and technology interaction in the classrooms.Language teachers,whether in China or abroad,should follow the trend of the times and give full play to the positive significance of modern science and technology in language teaching and reasonably apply it in their own classrooms.
