Mathematical textbooks are the main resource for teachers’ teaching and the main carrier for students to learn mathematics.Taking the textbooks published by the People’s Education Press in mainland China and the textbooks published by Kang Xuan in Taiwan as examples, this paper aims to study the different meanings of fractions and the value of the conclusions drawn in the course of comparison. This study uses a combination of literature review method, content analysis method, and comparative analysis method. This paper analyzes the different meaning of the fractions in the two editions of the textbooks and the comparison of the exemplified questions about fractions in the textbooks. The results are as follows:(1)the fractions of the two editions present five kinds of meaning: "number","measurement","quotient","operator" and "ratio";(2)the two versions of the textbooks are consistent in the order of five types of meaning of the fractions.(3)to compare the number of examples, there are obvious differences in the presentation of five fractions.Kangxuan edition focus on the teaching of the meaning of "measurement",and people’s education edition pays attention to the teaching of the meaning of "copies".According to the results of the comparison,it is suggested to make the following suggestions:(1)to strengthen the concept of “number” in the fraction meaning;(2)to strengthen the training of reasoning ability in the sense of fraction in textbooks;(3)to strengthen the use of straight lines to express scores in textbooks In-depth understanding of the meaning of Fraction "quotient";(4)to use the context of teaching materials rationally;(5)to strengthen the meaning of fraction "operator" in the relationship between fractions and inclusive division.
