Since the reform and opening up,great changes have taken place in the spatial pattern of population and economy in China. The difference between population distribution and regional economic development has become a prominent problem facing China.Facing the imbalance and insufficient contradiction of regional development,it is important to shape a new pattern of regional coordinated development and promote regional high-quality development in an all-round way.As an old industrial base in China, the imbalance between population and economic development in Northeast China is prominent.Slowing economic growth and population outflow have become the main contradictions.Correct understanding of the relationship between population and economy is of great reference value for formulating relevant policies, promoting regional coordination and high-quality development. On the basis of systematically combing the existing theory and research literature, this paper takes 36 prefecture-level cities in Liaoning,Jilin and Heilongjiang provinces in Northeast China as the research regional unit, combines the relevant yearbook data from 1995 to 2017,and makes a thorough study on the present situation and trend of the evolution of population and economic spatial pattern by using the methods of gravity analysis, coherence coefficient and spatial autocorrelation analysis. On the basis of consistency analysis,a panel data model is established with consistency coefficient as dependent variable and 10 indexes of social and economic factors as independent variables. The influencing factors on consistency of population and economic spatial distribution are analyzed quantitatively. Finally,it draws conclusions and puts forward relevant countermeasures and suggestions. From the point of view of population distribution and economic development, since the implementation of the strategy of revitalizing the old industrial base in Northeast China in 2003,Liaoning Province has become the main agglomeration area of population and economy in Northeast China. The population and economic center of gravity are shifting to the southwest obviously, but they deviate greatly, and the population center of gravity lags behind the spatial trajectory of economic center of gravity.According to the spatial distribution characteristics of population and economy, the population and economy in the region show an obvious distribution pattern of " The south is dense and the north is scarce " and " Core-periphery" centered on provincial capital cities, and the population agglomeration lags behind the economic agglomeration. The economic orientation of population flow in the region is obviously weak.Through the establishment of fixed effect model,it is found that physical capital, human capital, government behavior and industrial structure all have an important impact on the coherence coefficient of population and economy in Northeast China.Human capital, road mileage, financial expenditure and other factors have a great impact on the marginal areas, but the impact on the core areas is not obvious. From the empirical results of classified areas, labor employment and fiscal expenditure have a positive impact on the two types of areas(population and economic coordination),but not on the first type(population lags behind economy),the third type(population ahead of economy);the number of universities and highway mileage have a negative impact on the first and third types of areas, and on the second type of areas. The regional influence is not obvious. Therefore, improving the market mechanism, giving full play to the role of the government and moderate policy inclination have important practical significance in promoting the coordinated development of population and economic regions in Northeast China.
