In the western rural areas of China,students' reading ability falls behind that of Middle Eastern students due to limitations such as geographical location,resources,language culture and family educational environment etc.In the research,the fifth graders in S Village are taken as the research objects,and students' methods,strategies,interests,and habits in reading regarded as the targets to be promoted.The qualitative research method is the main research method in the thesis.The materials are collected by interviewing,observing as well as literature referring;the problems existing in students' reading are researched by field trips;pupils' reading ability status is analyzed according to teachers' interview and observation;pupils' reading ability needs are summarized;the group work service schemes to promote reading ability are established according to the research result;the group work activities are implemented.At last,the assessment,summery and reflection are done.The assessment results show that social work method can efficiently help students enrich reading knowledge,expand fields of vision in reading,develop reading interests and promote reading ability.The cooperation between schools and social works promotes the cognitive level school holds to social works,expands the influence of social works on shool education,and increase teacher's and students' understanding and acceptability for social works as well.In face of social works and the carefree learning atmosphere,atmosphere in group works,students are easier to learn and acquire knowledge,which is beneficial for students' comprehensive development.
