Research group of the Key Competences formally issued a document concerning“Key Competences for Chinese Students' Development” in 2016.We can know that the relevant research on developing students' key competences in teaching is essential.Combining its features,each discipline has its own “key competences”.The key competences and in biology include: life concept,scientific thinking,scientific inquiry and social responsibility.After understanding the specific content of each category,the author reviews the related literatures about “key competences” and “key competences in biology” and studies other scholars' research results concerning how to develop the students' “key competences”.Considering the actual situation,the thesis adopts “mission driven” method and proposes the teaching strategy including “setting problem situation”and “question investigation” to study the development of the students' “key competences in biology” in first grade junior middle school teaching.The three classes in the first grade were selected as the experimental subjects(Class one is the control class,the other two classes are experimental classes).The author uses lecture method to teach in the control class,while uses“mission driven” methods in experimental classes.During the course of the experiment,the classroom observation method was used to observe whether 80% of the students were willing to participate in the classroom.At the end of the experiment,a questionnaire survey was conducted to investigate the development of “key competences in biology” of 106 students.After using “mission driven” methods for a semester,the author comes up with the following conclusions:1.The students in experimental classes have improved in life concept and scientific thinking;2.The students in control class have not improved in scientific inquiry and social responsibility.According to the above results,the following suggestions are proposed: 1.Experimental teaching should be strengthened in developing students' scientific exploration literacy,and students should be guided to propose questions in the process;2.Students should participate in the social practice related to biology in developing students' social responsibility literacy;3.we should improve theteaching method of mission driving and combine other teaching strategies to strengthen the development of students' conception of life and scientific thinking.
