Shu Xincheng,the famous educationist of China as well as the historian of education,the publisher and the dictionary complies editor in China.He has a superior performance on the educational reform stage in modern China.In complex environments of the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China,he was only an ordinary middle school teacher at the beginning.However,he did extraordinary things.Shu Xincheng was good at perceiving the changes that have taken place in the education field,and he had a lot of doubts and dissatisfaction.So he took the "New Education" movement as an opportunity to carry out drastic educational reforms,especially in the educational reform and practice of middle school.Instead,with the failure of "New Education" movement and the termination of Dalton Plan experiments,his reforms began with a comedy and ended in tragedy,which led him to fall into a deeper reflection on the reasons why Chinese education was.So his enthusiasm for the Chinese education experiment has turned to study on the history of Chinese education,trying to construct the education model suitable for Chinese soil on the basis of exploring factors.The formation of Shu Xincheng's educational thoughts were influenced by many factors.The late Qing Dynasty was in the transition era of the old and the new,and education also generated new atmosphere.Because of western modern education into people's vision,Shu Xincheng not only touched the traditional private school and academy education,but also felt the uniqueness of western modern education.In addition,as a son of tenant farmer,the hardship of living environment created his unique personality,which was the intrinsic factor that he was able to find the education dilemma.Shu Xincheng had been teaching in middle school for a long time,which has observed problems of the secondary educational system,the secondary curriculum,and the middle school moral education through of keen eyes.He has spared no effort to carry out targeted educational reforms.This exploration process catalyzed the emergence of his secondary school educational thoughts.Later,The choice ofhistoriography of education was to find the root cause of problems in education practice,and there was no solution to the dilemma.Shu Xincheng educational thoughts originate from his thinking on practical dilemma,which are in conformity with the trend of time and provide reference for the education reform and development of current.This paper takes Shu Xincheng's educational thought as a case,trying to find out how to develop educational thoughts based on practical dilemma.
