The Analysis On The Educational Idea And Practice Of Japanese Modern Educator Jo Niijima

Jo Niijima was the son of a samurai,when Japan banned on maritime trade or intercourse with foreign countries,he risked his life to go to America to quest of liberty and civilization,and became a pioneer of the students studying in America.The life of ten years in America made the belief of him more strengthen which saving the nation through education.After repatriated Japan,he built a famous private university--Doshisha University with his advanced educational idea,and his educational idea btought a gust of wind in Japan.Jo Niijima come into contact with the Western advanced science and culture.So he looked forward to the West.He thought that learn from the West,not only learn its surface,but also learn its foundation.So he advocated moral education which based on ecumenism.This research disentangle the life experience and the running practice of Jo Niijima by analyzing the materials about Jo Niijima and Doshiisha University.And on this basis,inspect the process of his thought and the form of his educational idea,and the position on Japanese history of education.We think Jo Niijima's Educational idea which conscience idea,liberalism and moral education brought fresher and advanced idea to Japan.
