As China is becoming more economically and socially important in the world,Chinese is regarded as a very crucial subject in Australian language curriculum.However,Chinese teachers who are not native speakers are incapable of meeting the demand of students with no Chinese background and also the traditional Chinese teaching mode is not effectively employed.Chinese speaking cannot be more emphasized in Chinese teaching,thus becoming the most desirable skill that beginners are aspired to acquire.Both teachers and students hold high expectation towards Chinese spoken teaching.Referring to the way local English teachers apply picture books to their teaching Australian primary students,this thesis is aimed at conducting the teaching design three times by means of using the picture book :Little Chicken.For elementary level primary school students with basic Chinese language skills,through three semesters,and select one teaching design of each semester to display.The teaching design is carried out from three aspects: new words,sentences and situational exercises,and questionnaires are issued after teaching to understand the students' mastery of Chinese spoken in this teaching mode.Through students' classroom performance and questionnaire data,it can be observed that students in the use of Chinese picture book in the teaching process,the learning interest,mastery of vocabulary and sentence rate is higher.Through the form of story telling could increase Chinese spoken opportunities for students in class.We hope that through three teaching design,and according to the evaluation of teaching mode,gain experience and inspiration,analyzes and summarizes an oral Chinese teaching mode which suits Australian children,to apply Chinese picture books to children's Chinese language teaching for increase teaching quality and efficiency,provide teaching with guidance and reference for the teaching activities.
