As one of the four learning areas in the Mathematics Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(2011 edition),“Graphics and geometry”is the focus of the new round of curricular reform.New Curriculum claims that students' spatial concept,geometry intuition and preliminary reasoning ability should be the keystone of cultivation in the teaching of “Graphics and geometry”.Heuristic and inquiry teaching methods are advocated in teaching "Graphics and geometry" because of its abstractness and specificity.In addition,the author discovers from ten years teaching experience that inquiry teaching method is more effective in fostering students' spatial concept and geometry intuition in Graphics and geometry teaching because this teaching method is more intuitive and vivid.Based on 5E Instructional Model,which is superior and novel as an outstanding inquiry teaching model,this paper studies the teaching practice on "Graphics and geometry" in primary school mathematics,so as to explore how to use this model to organize the teaching of "Graphics and geometry",to cultivate students' geometric ability and to improve the teaching efficiency.Firstly,according to the experience of teaching and understanding of 5E Instructional Model,the author puts forward the following teaching strategies in teaching " graphics and geometry " in elementary mathematics :(1)student-oriented teaching strategy,(2)question-centered teaching strategy,and(3)actual situation-started teaching strategy.Secondly,the author carries on the teaching practice from which two typical teaching cases ——concept teaching and calculation teaching are selected for presenting and analyzing.Finally,through students questionnaires,case interviews,interviews with other teachers,the comments of the experts,and the author's own teaching experience,this paper probes into the advantages and disadvantages of applying the 5E Instructional Model into teaching "Graphics and geometry" in primary school mathematics.The study indicates that the advantages of adopting 5E Instructional Model in teaching "graphics and geometry" in Primary School Mathematics are as follows:(1)it is more suitable for cooperative learning,two or four students as a group,offering more chances for students to participate,practice and communicate in class.(2)it is beneficial in the cultivation of students' spatial concept,geometrical intuition and preliminary reasoning ability.(3)It can also better cultivate students' problem consciousness and develop the good habit of exploration and collaboration.However,the application of this model has high-demanding for the teachers who are required to have extensive specialized knowledge,professional knowledge,excellent educational and teaching skills;a better understanding of the students as well as good competence in commanding the class.
