Dialogue is the main way and means of educational practice.The different ways of dialogue between teachers and students determine the efficiency and quality of education.This investigation examines two typical dialogues represented by Confucius and Socrates,that is,through the analysis and comparison of the texts of the Analects of Confucius and the Platonic Gatherings and the Complete Works of Plato,from the dialogue subject,dialogue content,and method.The three levels of the method demonstrate two different dialogue traditions in Chinese and Western education,and then explore the contemporary values of the two dialogue traditions.The investigation found:From the perspective of the dialogue subject,Confucius himself and his students take Confucius as a “prophet”.Students regarded as know-nothing,and they actively asked Confucius as a “knowing person” who asks well in their dialogue.In the Socrates dialogue with others,Socrates has always been "ignorant" himself,others are presumed to be "knowledgeable" and questioned.The teacher role of the former dialogue is jointly positioned by teachers and students,and the latter is mainly the self-presupposition of Socrates.In the Confucius dialogue,the teacher-student relationship is not equal but expressed as intimate and open.The teacher-student relationship in the Soviet-style dialogue is democratic and equal.Judging from the contents of the dialogue,Confucius and Socrates dialogues are both based on the discussion of ethics.What's the difference? Confucius Dialogue mainly points to "how to do".The dialogue pay more attention to the answers of the questions and they didn't make detailed inferences about the answers.The Confucius Dialogue thus showed clear and concise.On the contrary,the Soviet-style dialogue mainly seeks to find out what things are in the general sense.The dialogue must carry out detailed reasoning and verification of the answers to the questions,thus exhibiting features of lengthy discussions and repeated arguments.Judging from the dialogue method,the methods used by Confucius' s dialogues are mainly: insufficiency of language,retention of suspense,sensationalism,active reminders,ingenious responses,avoidance of replies,identification the problems,ask then reply;Dialogues are mainly: investigating logic,reasoning and discourse,changing topics,driving thinking,enumerating counterexamples,and validating arguments.Confucius and Confucius inspire bring us a lot of inspiration in education.We must cultivate the ability of students to ask questions.Questions and answers from teachers must be close to students' lives.Teachers and students should treat each other sincerely in dialogues,and teachers should be good at adjusting the dialogue between knowing and not knowing.
