Hu Zhefu was a famous historical educator over the period of the Republic of China.He devoted his whole life into the study of history and history education.He published many books such as “History pedagogy”,“Historical theory”and“British development history”,he had a profound impact on the development of Chinese history pedagogy theories.This paper inquired into the background,main contents,characteristics and enlightenment of the formation of Hu Zhefu's thoughts of historical education.First of all,it analyzed the background information and his ideology from the perspective of the reform of the education system during that period,the influences of Western thoughts of education,Hu Zhefu's historical cultivation and his focus on historical education.Secondly,analyses of Hu Zhefu's thoughts of historical education were divided into two aspects: historical curriculum theory and historical teaching theory.Finally,this paper discussed the characteristics and enlightenment of his historical education ideas.Hu Zhefu's thoughts on historical education paid more attention to the combination of the study of history and pedagogy,highlighting that the history teaching method should be used as an independent discipline to be constructed and researched.In addition,he particularly emphasized the integration of Western educational thoughts and traditional history teaching,and vigorously promoted the construction and development of Chinese history teaching system.
