With the accelerating development of urbanization, inequality in wealth in urban areas has also widened.Recently, being as a part of the urban disadvantaged groups, urban low-income families have gradually drawn attention from the society.Due to their disadvantageous socioeconomic status, children who live in low-income families are also faced with enormous challenges and pressures.Apart from malnutrition and lack of medical care, there also exits psychological problems that cannot be ignored including low self-evaluation,passive interpersonal communication, shyness and timidity, meanwhile, insufficient self-confidence is the most significant one. These problems will have a negative impact on their future growth if no effective measures are taken to guide and educate. In order to enhance the self-confidence of children in urban low-income families, this thesis adopts group work approach from the perspective of social work.Based on in-depth investigation of the real situation of self-confidence among low-income children, this thesis analyzes the factors that influence self-confidence and at the same time, according to related studies, quantifies self-confidence into six elements referring to self-recognition ability,self-affirmation ability, communication and expression ability, interpersonal communication ability, frustration and affordability, and decision-making ability.Seven targeted group activities were designed following the overall goal of improving self-confidence of children in low-income families and based on the relevant content of cognitive behavior theory and push-pull theory, the design, development, preparation, implementation and assessment of the activities are also recorded and analyzed in detail. In the pre-intervention phase, interviews were used to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the needs of the service target and the community environment,andfirst-hand information was collected.Based on the relevant theoretical knowledge and the needs of the service target, children's self-confidence was quantified and activities were designed accordingly.Targeted group intervention activities used the relevant knowledge of cognitive behavior theory and push-pull theory to conduct process assessment;after the activity, questionnaires were used to collect feedback from parents and service target. Finally, based on the results of the activities and related materials, research conclusions can be drawn.Children in low-income families in the city have a general lack of self-confidence and there is a need for improvement of self-confidence.The professional intervention of the growth group can effectively promote the improvement of self-confidence.
