A Study On The Egerton Ryerson’s Thought Of Public Education Administration

Egerton Ryerson is a great educator in the history of modern education in Canada,Ontario,the founder of public education,the founder of the Canadian public education system.Served as director of education in Ontario in 32 years,he has been committed to the creation of public education system career,formulated a series of measures on the management of public education,so that public education quality was sured and supported by the social people.Egerton Ryerson’s public education management thought is not only significant to Canada at that time,but also has great theoretical significance and practical significance in modern age.The dissertation in general comprises five chapters.Chapter one is introduction,it is to clear the purpose,the content and meaning of this study,straighten out the thinking of research,research method,and it defines the core concepts of this study.Chapter two is background of Egerton Ryerson’ s public education management thought,it is divide into two parts,including the age background,Egerton Ryerson’ s life and the education activities.The first part described the major changes in canadian politic,economy,culture in mid-nineteenth century,especially the developments in education during the British colonies.The second part is to introduce Egerton Ryerson’s life,emphatically highlights his public education activities.Chapter three is the content of Egerton Ryerson’s public education management thought,including the responsibility of government in public education,measures for the administration of public schools,and suggestions of teacher’ s rights and teacher training.Chapter four is characteristics of public education management thought.Through the analysis,it is prominent scientific,democratic and guaranteed by law in Egerton Ryerson’s public education management thought.Chapter five is evaluation revelation of Egerton Ryerson’s public education management thought,analyzing the historical status and limitation of Egerton Ryerson’s public education management thought,and putting forward the enlightenment to the management of public education.
