Map is called the "second language" of geography.It is the carrier of geographical knowledge.It is also a tool that can not be lacked in geography teaching.The position of map in geography teaching is very important.The new curriculum reform attaches great importance to the cultivation of students' ability,and the ability in reading geographic graphics as a basic ability of geography learning,every student should master it.The new curriculum standard also mentioned several times to solve the problem by geographic graphics.However,through the author's investigation and observation,the situation of geography teaching in junior middle school is far from the requirements of the new curriculum.Especially the students of grade seven,because of limited cognitive ability and lack of spatial thinking ability.In addition,the knowledge in textbook is difficult and lack of better learning method,so reading geographic graphics has become a barrier to learn geography.Many students abandon to learn geography in the future.Schools and teachers do not pay much attention to geography.Many junior middle school geography teachers are changing from other subjects,and they lack the corresponding systematic knowledge.So they cannot teach students the ability to read geographic graphics well.Therefore,this article from the perspective of geography for beginners.Research teaching methods to improve the geographic graphics reading ability of the students of Grade 7.I adopt the advanced teaching method to arouse students' interest in learning.This article explains profound theories in simple language and effectively solves the difficulties in teaching.It not only improves the geographic graphics reading ability of students,but also enhances the teaching ability of geography teachers in junior middle school.This paper is divided into five parts.The first part introduces the background,present situation,content and methods of the research.The second part introduces the theoretical basis of the study,include the concept of the ability to read geographic graphics and educational psychology basis.In the third part,different teaching strategies are adopted for different maps.I select only four kind of graphics which are the most difficult for students:grid lines of longitude and latitude,sketch map of the earth movement,contour map,the world climate map.According to the characteristics of geographic graphics,different teaching strategies are adopted.The fourth part is empirical research.The experimental class and the control class were selected randomly,and we chose different teaching strategies.After a period of time,students would have a test,which proved the effectiveness of the proposed strategy.The fifth part is the summary and reflection.
