Since the beginning of activity of faculty development in the 19th century,more and more attentions have been paid to college teachers all over the world.With the popularization of higher education in the world and the advancement of the process of world integration,improving the quality of higher education has become a top priority of all countries,and the closely related teachers in HEIs(Higher Education Institutions)have become the focus of attention.China also urgently needs to bring in the experience of how to improve the quality of HEIs teachers.At present,China's research on faculty development organizations is mainly concentrated on the United States,Australia,Canada,the United kingdom and other countries.The Faculty development system is quite developed in Ireland,and it has a series of faculty development organizations at the national level.Most of the HEIs in Ireland have built the faculty development center,while few relevant research have been published.Based on this information,Ireland is selected as the object country of this study,and its organizations of various levels and categories to undertake the task of faculty development in colleges are analyzed in detail.The purpose of this study is to enrich the relevant national research on the faculty development in China,summarize the characteristics and experience of faculty development organizations in Ireland,and provide inspiration and reference for the faculty development in China.Firstly this study reviews the current research of faculty organizations at home and abroad,and then introduced the research background and theoretical basis.In the research background,this paper introduces the current situation of Ireland higher education,and analyzes National strategy for higher education to 2030,National Professional Development Framework and other important documents related to the faculty development in detail.Then this study selects six faculty development organizations both at national level and college level,and there are The National Forum for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning,Irish Federation of University Teachers,Academic Practice&eLearning of Trinity College Dublin,Centre for the Integration of Research,Teaching and Learning of University College Cork,Learning,Teaching&Technology Centre in Dublin Institute of Technology,and learning and teaching unit in Athlone Institute of Technology.Based on Learning organisation Theory,this research summarizes the characteristics of different types of faculty development organizations in Ireland.The organization at the national level is characterized by the diversity of organizational type and function,close connection of organizational network,extensive diffusion of organizational function.The characteristics of the university faculty development organization are that the organization is equipped with professional personnel and attaches great importance to the role of graduate students in the faculty development.The characteristics of Institute of Technology are that they pay attention to the use of network technology,take long-term follow-up training.On this basis,this resaerch puts forward enlightenment for different levels of China's faculty development organizations.The innovation of this study is to systematically sort out the status of Ireland faculty development organizations and summarize the characteristics of different levels and types of faculty development organizations.
