During the period of the later Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China,Chinese society had undergone the transition from feudalism to semi-colonial and semi-feudal system,and as a result of the spread of science and culture in China to the West during the early twentieth century,the structure of education system in China had changed.The-establishment of new schools promoted school music education in Chinese educational history.In the course of Modern Chinese school music education,there were a large number of pioneers and leaders had emerged,and not only they devoted themselves to building the principles of school music,but also put their theories into practice.Wu Mengfei who was a music educator and composer in China played an important role in the development of modern Chinese music,and as the disciple of Li Shutong,Wu also carried forward Li's professional skills and teaching concepts,which are worthy to be researched when we study the history of modern Chinese music.This paper aims to study Wu's "Junior high school Music"links to the context of reforms in education,and then exploring more values of this textbook.This paper uses Marxist dialectical materialism as the methodological guidance and it applies literature method,comparative method,inductive method and other methods to study.Based on the gradual development of music textbooks' context and compiling basis in the 1930s,this paper will analyses the main content of textbook and summarises its writing features,which include ideological,artistic,and acceptability.Though "Junior high school Music" was published 80 years ago,its had certain values to Chinese school music education at that time.According to the historical and practical point of view,the writer tries to make a fair evaluation of "Junior high school Music",and by comparing the textbook with "Compulsory Education CurriculumStandard Schoolbook of Music",this paper demonstrates strengths.and weaknesses of'Junior high school Music".After analysing,we will have better understanding of"Junior high school Music"when we use it as reference for compiling new guidebooks in recent days.This paper-argues that "junior middle school music" is a good teaching material with scientific basis and wide applicability.It has a clear writing concept and compiling characteristics,and is also a superior work in contemporary textbooks.Textbooks highlight the theme of the times,concerned about the learning community,the current school music textbooks also have some reference value and inspiration.Its lack is the lack of national music elements,emphasizing textbooks themselves,ignoring the main student body.
