The Research On SportsCommunication Of Young Men's Christian Associationin Modern China

Association Progress was the official magazine of the Young Men's Christian Association(Y.M.C.A),which was found in 1917 and ceased publication in 1932.The principle of magazine is “advocate the education of moral,wisdom,physical training and masses to build the full personality of the youth”.It has been issued 150 terms,10 terms per every.Through documentary,the research wants to show the sports communication of the Y.M.C.A in modern china from 1917 to 1932 by collecting,collating and summarizing the magazine,which provides detailed information for academic research.Moreover,the reason why the Y.M.C.A disseminated its cause by sports communication which we can see from the Association Progress is also the emphsis of the research.The research will discuss the sprots communication of the Y.M.C.A on the base of the Association Progress from two aspects.Combining the education and religious thought at that time,the Y.M.C.A carried out its sports cause under the guidance of the theory.There are two theories:the“Four Education”theory and the“Social Gospel”theory.From the aspect of practice,systematization was the main trait in the modern china,the sports cause of the Y.M.C.A was related to its organization whicn we can see from the Association Progress.Talent is the key to organization,so the Y.M.C.A paid attention to the cultivaton of sports leaders.With the theory of“ Social Gospel”,there were lots of articles about social problems in the Association Progress.The Y.M.C.A advocated its social cause,focusing on households,school and factories.So the family sports,the school physical education and labour sports were advocated.Futhermore,Sprots meeting as a special carrier is also mentioneded in the Association Progress.In conclusion,the sports that the Y.M.C.A disseminated was a concept about the body,which we can see from the Association Progress.It was related to the hygiene and game with systematization and secularization.On the one hand,the Y.M.C.A paid attention to the sociality of the sports.The aim of its sprots communication was to cultivate the personality of citizens,so that the society could be transformed,with a strong religious spread.On the other hand,the sports began a new lifestyle of the people in modern china which we can see from the“social sports”of the Association Progress.
