The study of solid geometry has an extremely important influence on the development of students' thinking.Based on the curriculum standards of senior high school students higher learning of solid geometry and its important position in the college entrance examination, and the fact that students showed hard in the solution, this paper researches on the thinking of senior high school students in learning solid geometry, including the division of students' thinking level and the analysis of the characteristics of students' thinking at different levels on the basis of Van Hiele theory. This study firstly starts with seven different ways of activity to obtain a preliminary grasp of the students' level. Then to measure the students' thinking level of solid geometry,a table of the second level evaluation index is presented based on the definition of each level by Van Hiele and the explanation of each level by some scholars such as Fuys,Holmes.Thirdly, based on the evaluation index, the test paper is compiled, and 92 students in grade two of senior high school are tested.Lastly, based on the evaluation model of Gutierrez, each Van Hiele level is divided into 5 consecutive stages, then each stage is subdivided into 7 types, thus the students' level of geometric thinking is accurately measured by the quantitative interval, and conclusions are obtained as follows:1.The development of the adjacent thinking level is closely related. The development of level of the former is the important basis of the development of later, and with the improvement of the level, the relationship between them is more closely.2.The development of geometric thinking at all levels is simultaneous, not single.3.The development of students' thinking in the four levels is not balanced. However,it obviously shows that students' learning results gradually become worse with the improvement of the van Hiele levels. At the same time, the characteristics of thinking of different kinds of students are analyzed and several suggestions are put forward to teachers and students for reference.
