Taking student's demand as the orientation is a characteristic of New Zealand primary and middle school classroom, under such circumstance,it is a challenge for Mandarin language assistants to use non-native language to promote Chinese language and Chinese culture.Students ' preference for learning contents and ways of learning can be manifested through classroom learning behavior, therefore,in order to design the teaching methods and content that meet the needs of students,Chinese teachers need to understand the students ' classroom learning behavior.Maori as indigenous peoples in New Zealand, they have their own learning preferences and habits, for example, they like to establish a good relationship with teachers, like to work with partners on the basis of communication and mutual understanding, although they are a little bit lazy, their learning achievements and enthusiasm is not as high as other students, they are good at hand-makings.Their fondness for singing and dancing and the enthusiasm for group learning are obvious.Apart from being influenced by their own national habits,Maori students ' learning behaviors in Mandarin classrooms are influenced by their social environment, classroom environment and curriculum settings. Therefore,in this paper,I will summarize and define the classroom learning behavior first, then through the induction by foreign scholars to the Maori students study characteristics and personal experience to the Maori students behavior in Mandarin classroom.I will propose the question and presuppositions of this paper:What are the characteristics of Maori students' learning behavior in Mandarin classroom? What are the specific learning behaviors? What factors affect the learning behavior?Secondly, based on the principle of environmental affordance,I will sum up the availability of Mandarin teaching in primary and secondary schools of New Zealand and Kawerau, which provides the background and theoretical basis for the study. After that, through the questionnaires, classroom observation and interviews,I will analyze the implicit and explicit learning behaviors of the Maori students in Mandarin classroom of four primary and middle schools. Then,I will sum up the characteristics and influencing factors of Maori students' learning behaviors in Mandarin classroom. At last,I will put forward the strategies of Mandarin teaching and culture promotion. At present,China and New Zealand have co-established three Confucius Institutes,Mandarin has become one of the hottest language in New Zealand. However,in terms of environmental affordance, few scholars have been involved in the topic of how to teach Chinese language to the Maori people and how to explore the factors that affect learning behavior. Therefore,I hope to provide the ideas and suggestions for the teaching and the Chinese culture promotion through this article for the Mandarin language assistants who will go to New Zealand teaching Maori students and the scholars who study the learning behavior under the background of the second language teaching.
