The ideological and political education for the police is a critical element of the Chinese Communist Party's ideological and political education system.The ideological and political education represents an important factor for strengthening the police force,ensuring the Party's absolute leadership over the police,guaranteeing a truthful execution of police tasks,and signaling the lifeline of police work and force-building.Under current situations,the Party and the country has demanded the police to solidify their ideological and political education,firmly build up the “four consciousness”,strengthen political positions,and establish a strong police force that is satisfactory to the Party and the public.Police ideological and political education is facing severe challenge due mainly to the profound impact of the social diversification of thoughts and values,the rapid development of communication technologies,and the surface of new communication methods,all of which have influenced police officers' ideology and way of thinking.The difficulty of police ideological and political education also has continuously expanding as the complexity of communication environment and the diversity of information dissemination have greatly undermined the authority of police educational subject and made the modification of the traditional one-way learning approach necessary.Innovating the approaches of police ideological and political education and enhancing the effectiveness of the education is a new topic in this new era.Based on a classical theory of communication,Hovland's persuasion model,this thesis innovatively analyzes the ideological and political education of the police in hopes of providing suggestions to address problems related to the police education.This study utilizes literature review,online surveys and interdisciplinary research.It is divided into five sections.Section One provides an introduction of the thesis,covering mainly topic selection and important values of this study,main findings of domestic and international studies,research methods and improvements of the study.Section Two elaborates the basic theoretical frameworks used in this study.Section Three elucidates the applicability of Hovland's persuasion model to the ideological and political education for the police,explaining the applicability from both the perspective of possibility and necessity.Based on the data from officer survey,Section Four reports the survey findings along with the four key features of educational subject,medium,object and environment of the police ideological and political education.It investigates and summarizes current problems associated with each of the four key features.Section Five serves as the focus of this thesis.Drawn upon important propositions from Hovland's persuasion model,this section furnishes innovative strategies and specific approaches of resolving problems pertain to the ideological and political education.
