On The Causes And Prospects Of Myanmar's Democratization Reform

Myanmar is the country with the longest military rule after World War II.In 2010,Myanmar held the first multi-party democratic elections since 1990.The success of the general election means that Myanmar has successfully achieved the transition from military government to democratically elected government,which is also the key to Myanmar's beginning of democratization reform.This paper first makes a conceptually clear definition of what is “Myanmar's democratization reform”,then reviews Myanmar's efforts in democratization reform,and draws on the characteristics of the reform based on the results achieved.Then,it further explains why Myanmar initiated democratic reform at the beginning of the 21 st century from external and internal factors.This paper holds that external factors are the background for Myanmar to initiate the process of democratization reform at the beginning of the21 st century,but it cannot spontaneously affect the process of Myanmar 's political and economic reforms,and does not play a decisive role in the event of Myanmar's democratization reform.The influence of external factors on the Myanmar military junta's initiating of democratization reform should be viewed dialectically,and its importance cannot be ignored.Among external factors,changes in the international pattern have brought about changes in the international environment.Therefore,Myanmar's democratization reform is a product of the times.Internal factors determine the basic trend and direction of Myanmar's democratization reform process,which is closely linked to the reform process.Among the internal factors,the Myanmar military junta's initiative to initiate reforms is the fundamental reason for the democratization reform,so it is said that mature internal factors are the key to Myanmar 's implementation of democratization reform.In general,Myanmar 's democratization reform is a development that conforms to the trend of the times.It is a top-down,planned,and strategic reform and transformation movement initiated by the military junta.It is also the result of a combination of multiple pulling forces and pressures.Looking forward to the prospect of Myanmar's democratic reform,opportunities outweigh challenges and it tests the determination and wisdom of the Myanmar government.This year marks the 70 th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Myanmar.Bilateral relations have entered a new era,and China and Myanmar have formed acommunity of shared destiny.No matter which political party in Myanmar wins in the2020 election,China will firmly support Myanmar to follow the development path that suits its national conditions.
