Research On The Impact Mechanism Of Risk Information On Public Resistance

With the development of social economy and technology and the increase of social demand,the construction of NIMBY projects is in full swing in recent years at home and abroad.However,the negative externalities of most NIMBY projects make the projects construction a controversial topic.With the improvement of the public's awareness of environmental protection and the protection of their interests,people are faced with the construction of NIMBY projects such as magnetic levitation,nuclear power plant,waste collection station,etc.Then they will form different psychological perceptions and make different decision-making of risk-resisting behaviors by considering the environmental and health risks of NIMBY projects.The fierce public resistance behavior will cause a series of NIMBY conflicts,so it will hinder the construction of NIMBY projects and bring negative influence to the society.In the past,the researches on the NIMBY mainly focus on public participation,risk communication and so on,and put forward corresponding preventive measures.But in the process of NIMBY risk evolution,the public forms psychological perception and makes behavioral decisions through the interaction with the external environment.In this process information becomes the link.In recent years,more and more scholars begin to pay attention to the function of risk information to psychological perception and public behavior.Therefore,it is necessary to study the impact of risk information on public protest behavior from the information perspectiveOn the basis of literature review,this article establishes a model of the impact of risk information on public protest behavior.And based on the two-path information processing model,this article divides the impact of risk information on public resistance into two paths:heuristic processing and systematic processing,then take this as the main research frame.This article combines the theory of planned behavior,the theory of social amplification of risk,and the theory of information processing to conduct a quantitative research on the path mechanism of the risk information that affects the protest behavior of Yangtze River Delta public when they face construction of NIMBY project.Firstly,this article confirms the direct effect of risk information on public resistance behavior,which is consistent with the heuristic processing.Secondly,from the perspective of systematic processing path,this article validates the intermediary model of adding benefit perception and risk perception,and in the context of risk information,it takes the dominant position to make resistance behavior through systematic processing path.Finally,this article confirms the moderating role of government trust between risk/benefit perception and protest behavior.On this basis,this article puts forward some suggestions,such as optimizing the risk information structure,improving the public trust in the government,etc.
