The Chinese Communist Party’s Report On Stillwell

US aid to China during the All-Japanese War was an important part of the history of Sino-US relations in the 20 th century.After the outbreak of the Pacific War,the United States announced that it would include China in the scope of the loan bill.Not only did China receive assistance from the United States,but China and the United States became allies.General Stillwell also came to China as Chiang Kai-shek’s chief of staff.Its content can be divided into three parts: Stillwell to China,Stillwell in China,and After Stilwell left China.The first part is mainly to welcome General Stillwell to China.The second part is to include General Stillwell in the China-Myanmar-Indian theater and the growing Sino-US military alliance.The third part,after Stilwell left China,focused on the "Stilwell Incident" and the death of Stilwell.As a whole,the contents of Stillwell’s report basically show two phase: in the early stage,the CCP’s public opinion cooperated with China’s anti-Japanese war and sought US aid,and in the later stage,it exposed the US plot to help Chiang launch a civil war.In order to express its friendship with the United States and to win public opinion support at home and abroad,the Communist Party of China has adopted flexible strategies in its propaganda process,such as the strategy of using a firm mass line in the country to give play to its guiding motives;it has adopted direct and indirect propaganda for allies The combined strategy vividly records a series of activities of Stillwell in China.What’s more important is the report by Xinhua Daily and Jiefang Daily on Stillwell.In addition to actively cooperating with the needs of the War of Resistance Against Japan and seeking US assistance,it spared no effort in exposing the Kuomintang’s conspiracy to use American aid to launch civil war.Using the contents of Stillwell published in the Xinhua Daily and Jiefang Daily to explore the image of Stillwell in the Chinese Communist Party’s wartime newspapers,we cannot only understand the CCP’s evaluation of Stillwell in the wartime,but also the CCP’s struggle US aid has made a positive contribution to China’s war of resistance,and it can also reproduce the party and political struggles behind Stilwell and the development and changes of the CPC’s foreign policy.This will help deepen the study of the relationship between the CCP and the United States during the Anti-Japanese War.
