Due to the China's rapid social economy development and the deepening aging population,more elderly people use their leisure time to join voluntary service activities,participate in community construction,promote community development and realize “a sense of worthiness for the elderly”.However,there are also some problems that cannot be ignored in the process of elderly volunteers participating in the service.For example,elderly volunteers often have unsatisfactory service results due to improper communication methods to affect the enthusiasm of elderly volunteers to participate in activities.Therefore,this study uses case work method to intervene the elderly volunteers with communication problems in order to explore the ways and strategies of social work intervention to improve the communication ability of the elderly volunteer service.This study takes an elderly volunteer with obvious problems and strong willingness to change in community X as an example.Through interviews and observation,the data on his insufficient communication ability are collected.Combined with communication theory and Satya family communication mode,the three levels of communication cognition,communication emotion and communication skills of the case owner are involved in the promotion.Through social work service,the goal of improving volunteer service ability and participation in volunteer activities was finally achieved.This paper explores the way to improve the communication ability of community elderly volunteer service which provides practical experience for the elderly to better participate in volunteer service,and also provides practical experience for X community to improve volunteer management system and cultivate elderly volunteer team.
