Casework Involving Social Integration Of Adolescents With Disabilities

People with disabilities,like other individuals in society,need normal social life,but the phenomenon of current social discrimination and rejection of people with disabilities is comparatively severity.They have long been on the margins ignored by society.Social integration issues exist in terms of access to social resources,employment levels,and environmental friendliness.As a special group of people with disabilities,disabled adolescents are in a critical period of physical and mental development.Promoting the social integration of disabled adolescents is conducive to improving their relationship with family members and the social environment,accelerating their healthy development and enhancing their social adaptation,ability.As a social worker,the author attempts to explore the social integration of young people with disabilities through professional social work methods,analyze the causes of social integration difficulties,and carry out casework to help young people with disabilities better participate in society and integrate into society.The author uses the public venture project of helping the rehabilitation and development of disabled families of the Q Youth Affairs Center in Y City as a platform.Through the methods of participatory observation and interviews,the author analyzes the social integration of young people with disabilities and finds that the social integration of disabled youth is widespread low.The author summarizes the causes from two aspects of the environment and disability youths.The lack of barrier-free facilities in the environment,social discrimination,the inability to accept normal education,the inability to achieve normal employment,and the lack of peer groups have affected the social integration of young people with disabilities.The self-rejection of adolescents with disabilities themselves caused by their inferiority is also the main reason for their integration into society.This paper takes the disabled youth J as the service object,and intervenes in J’s social integration problem according to the general social work process model and the case social work method.The lack of social integration of the client J is mainly due to that:the exclusion of client J’s long-term caregivers,the relative isolation of client J,s living environment,the inferiority of the client himself and the poor social skills.The author has developed a service plan based on the actual problems and needs of the client,and involved in case work.Intervention is divided into early intervention,intermediate intervention and late intervention.In the early stage of intervention:Through the rational emotional treatment model,the client overcomes inferiority and restores self-esteem;through the course study,situational exercises and other means,the client improves the social interaction ability.Interim Intervention:Promote communication within the family of the client to get the comprehension and support,especially the long-term caregiver of the client(the mother of the case);Through the "Youth Interpersonal Group" to help the client develop peer groups;Through the community power to create a friendly community environment for the disabled.In the late stage of intervention:based on the advantage perspective to explore the potential of the case,Prepare for the future career as a goal;Get in touch with the head of the community social organization,and get support from the community social organization to the case.Through the process evaluation and results evaluation of this case work service,the author found that the case work played an active role in promoting the social integration of disabled adolescents:It eliminated the inferiority of the client,improved their social interaction ability,and helped them improve social support network;explored his own strengths and potentials to make some preparations for the future career.Finally,the author summarizes the work of this case and proposes two suggestions based on the actual situation:one is to protect the basic rights of persons with disabilities,and the other is to cultivate professional service institutions for disabled youth.It is hoped that the research in this paper can provide some reference for the social integration of young people with disabilities.
