Searching For The Balance Between Freedom And State

Francis Fukuyama is a contemporary representative personage in the field of political development.However,the present research on Fukuyama’s theory is not comprehensive and complete.Besides,there are no dissertations on Fukuyama’s political development view at home and abroad.This article attempts to analysis the internal clue of Fukuyama’s political development view and explores the theme of his theory,analysis the contribution and deficiency of his theory so as to systematically studied Fukuyama’s political development view.In The End of History and the Last Man,Fukuyama argued that the worldwide spread of liberal democracies and free market capitalism of the West and its lifestyle may signal the end point of humanity’s sociocultural evolution and become the final form of human government.Facing the problem of reality,some countries was too weak even finally failed.In State-Building:Governance and World Order in the 21st Century,Fukuyama began to concern the state-Building of underdeveloped countries.Then,in his newly published two volumes of political book The Origins of Political Order and Political Order and Political Decay,Fukuyama used Denmark as an example for a perfect state.Then he proposed the three components of a modern political order,which is State-building,Rule of law and Accountable government.In addition,Fukuyama put forward a theoretical path of political modernization,which is views on institutional transplant and political development sequence.The differences between Fukuyama’s the end of history and political order theory mainly manifests in:political development topics,political development goals,political development ways and political development measures.Therefore,Fukuyama’s political development view has a notable shift,from freedom tendency to state tendency by State-Building as the symbol.Besides,searching for the Balance between Freedom and State is the theoretical core of Fukuyama’s political development view,it is also the main clue through his theory shift.The shift of Fukuyama’s political development view has four profound reasons:The introspection on American’s political failure is its primary cause;The present situation and the tendency of global political development is its realistic cause;The inheritance and development of Huntingdon’s theory is its immediate cause;The critique and sublation of the Neo-conservatism is its value cause.This article draws three conclusions through studying Fukuyama’s political development view.Firstly,Fukuyama’s theory has great influences on the academia.His political development view breaches the linearity development mode and search for the balance between freedom and state on the developing country’s path of political modernization.Secondly,Fukuyama’s theory also has many deficiencies such as idealism,ethnocentrism,textism,etc.Thirdly,Fukuyama studied and discussed about China at great length in the research process,so we should pay great attention to Fukuyama and his theory of political development.Moreover,we should build a socialist democratic politics with Chinese Characteristics ultimately.
