After a decade of efforts, traditional medicine including traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)has been included in the International Classification of Diseases(ICD)published by World Health Organization(WHO),which is a landmark breakthrough for TCM entering the mainstream medical system and going global.Within this context,WHO International Standard Terminology in Traditional Chinese Medicine was developed in order to better support WHO-ICTM.The author participated in the translation of Qigong and Taiji terminology. As the treasure of Chinese, even the world culture,TCM is becoming more and more popular and accepted by people all over the world, and the translation of TCM terminology tends to be systematic and fruitful. However,as a part of TCM,Qigong and Taiji lack unified and standard translation method in the past because their terms consist of abundant terms in the field of religion and TCM.Therefore, there is relatively little research on the translation of Qigong and Taiji terms academically. The translation of Qigong and Taiji is conducive to their international promotion. At the same time,it can provide reference value for the translation of Qigong and Taiji text. This report is from WHO International Standard Terminology in Traditional Chinese Medicine with 4117 terms, totally 200,000 characters. The original text has typical cultural characteristics, which requires translator to consider the original text and the target reader. It is crucial to choose appropriate translation guidance theory and translation skills. This report is based on Qigong and Taiji terminology, part of WHO International Standard Terminology in Traditional Chinese Medicine with 297 terms, totally 20,000 characters.Under the guidance of relevance theory, this report further discusses the translation of Qigong and Taiji terms combining the relevant cases in order to provide translation reference for the similar text. This report is divided into four chapters.Chapter one is an overview of the translation practice, which mainly elaborates the background, purpose and significance of it.Chapter two is a description of the translation process, including task preparation, task process and the revision.Chapter three is the core, which focuses on analyzing the translation practice of Qigong and Taiji terminology using appropriate translation skills, such as literal translation, transliteration, free translation, combination of transliteration and free translation, omission, amplification, domestication and foreignization from the aspects of religious terminology,TCM culturally-loaded words, syntax and textual translation.Chapter five gives a summary about the translation practice.Through the translation practice of Qigong and Taiji terminology, the author deeply recognizes that on one hand, the translator must improve his bilingual ability in order to translate well.On the other hand, translator must understand the connotation of Qigong and Taiji terminology for excellent translation works. The author hopes through this translation practice can provide guidance for the similar text and contribute to international spread of Qigong and Taiji.
