Words Translation In Criminal Judgment

This paper is a translation report,the original text is selected from a judgment translated by the author—The U.S.district court v.a Chinese scientist Shu Quansheng.The author selected the plea agreement and the statement of facts as the translation report materials.Written Judgment is a document written by the court on the basis of the judgment.It is standardized,legal,and accurate in language style,while in form style,it is objective,authoritative and serious.Due to the cultural and legal system differences of different countries,the concept of inequality often appears in the legal text.In this report,the author discusses how to accurately,rigorously and equally convey the functional factors of the judgment text with specific functions.The author hope that the report will provide some ideas and Suggestions for other translators.Based on the theory of pragmatic enrichment in intralingual communication,this report studies the translation of words in the judgment,and discusses the application of deictic,conceptual,implicative and textual cohesion pragmatic enrichment in the original text.Among them,conceptual and semantic pragmatic enrichment are mostly used in the translation of legal jargons and ordinary words with legal meanings.Meanwhile,the author also discusses some nominalization phenomena encountered in the process of translation,as well as the difficulties of symbols and abbreviations encountered in the translation of laws and precedents.Due to rigor of such legal texts like judgments,in the process of translation,the author should consider and discuss the environment and the legal cultural background of the original text and the legal cultural background of the target language,and then to evaluate the readers’ cognitive context,enriching the words,deixis and sentence.Only this can realize functional equivalence of the source language and target language,thus achieve the goal of communication.
