Nowadays,mobile APPs have been widely used in science and technology,education,daily life,etc.The use of mobile APPs in learning Chinese language was initially limited to looking up words in mobile dictionaries and reviewing words through the flash card system.With the rapid development in science and technology,the research on mobile APP design for Chinese language learners have led to various features like gamification,quizzes,optical character recognition(OCR),text to speech technologies(TTS),translation features and many more in mobile APPs today.The present research first analyzes the technological trend in the education sector,highlighting the use of electronics,artificial intelligence and mobile technology in learning Chinese,and then it illustrates the impact of other disciplines,such as psychology,on the process of learning a language.It also reviews 15 popular Chinese learning APPs,pointing out their features,major advantages and disadvantages.A survey on 533 people from other countries living in China at present,who were propelled to provide their answers to questions bothering their experience in using mobile Chinese learning APPs,was carried out and analyzed in this research.In addition,interviews were conducted over some international students of the Zhejiang University of Science and Technology.In conclusion,based on the data collected from the survey and interview and their analysis,this research proposes an applicable solution which could possibly transform the language learning mobile APP industry and benefit international students learning Chinese as a foreign or second language.
