A Report On The E-C Translation Of Climate Change News

Extreme weather destroys the global environment seriously now and climate change has been a hot topic and a focus in news reports as well.The translator chooses news from NPR,Atlantic and Time in US,and The Guardian in UK as source texts for translation practice.Under the guidance of contrastive linguistics comparing English and Chinese,the report concludes the strategies and skills for translating climate change news in foreign media,so as to improve the translation skills and strengthen the understanding of climate change issues.The report is composed of four chapters.Chapter One,the task description,is to introduces the translation task on climate change issues and presents the significance and the organization of the report.Chapter Two depicts the whole translation process including preparation before the translation,difficulties in translation and proofreading after translation.Chapter Three introduces contrastive linguistics between English and Chinese and its application on translation.The fourth chapter is the case study to analyze translation at four levels,namely lexis,clauses,clauses in combination and rhetoric.The fifth chapter summarizes the report and presents limitations and suggestions.It is shown the social-cultural context need to be concerned when the proper nouns and the coined words are translated applying amplification and explanation.At the clause level,the word order is adjusted to make the translation more appropriate in Chinese.For the translation of clauses in combination,the reconstruction is applied to reproduce the logical sequence and connectives are added to strengthen the cohesion.At the rhetoric level,figures of speech are mostly maintained in the target language to keep the stylistic feature of the source text.
