Bergman Film Study From The Mutual Perspectives Of Alienation And Empathy

Ingmar Bergman,famous Swedish director in the field of film,TV series and drama and outstanding playwright,is known as the "Godfather" of modern films and also one of the most typical and outstanding representatives of "author film".As the representative of “author film”.he combines the techniques of drama and film,creates a new and special kind of audio-visual language,extends the content of film and new form of drama film.Bergman's researches in China have several problems such as homogeneity and centralization in contents,and narrow horizons of research scope,this article focuses on two aesthetic concepts of Alienation and Empathy as breakthroughs,and puts Bergman's whole works into the research category.I try to reconsider Bergman's creative contexts,the development of audio-visual language and the change of theme from a new integrated perspective of film and drama.In this paper,Bergman's works are studied and analyzed from the perspectives of the image language,narrative structure,and the interaction between image and audience with reference to the theory of film,drama and other fields according to Bergman's own experience.I also combine the perspective of audience with the traditional method of the “author film” theory.The four-element system of "world,creator,receiver,and work" mentioned in The Mirror and The Lamp is also used to comprehensively examine Bergman's work.Based on the classic definition,this article redefines Alienation and Empath.The two concepts run through the two processes of creation and appreciation.Bergman's films consciously break the narrative logic of traditional films by setting hysteric characters,multiple plots,complex narrative structures,and dramatic image style,which makes the audience distance from the characters and works.At the same time,his works are the projection of his own life.The performance of actors is based on their own superb skills and rich feelings.Bergman also provides a lot of opportunities for the audience to substitute themselves with facial close-up,monologue,mirror projection and special camera angle.In Bergman's works drama,film,and television are interlinked,presenting a complex viewing.The relationship among creator,audience,world,and work becomes complicated and intertwined.Alienation and Empathy show a multi-layered relationship,which makes the distance among these four elements unstable.This article believes that both Alienation and Empathy symbolize looking at things and people from another perspective,thus establishing a stable,multi-faceted subject concept.
