Consecutive interpreting requires the interpreter to listen to what someone has to say take notes, and then reproduce the same message in another language.Optimal note-taking can enhance the interpreter's analysis and memory of the source language, ensuring completeness and helping the interpreter to deliver more accurately and smoothly. But mistakes in note-taking can lead to poor interpreting performance. This thesis focuses on mistakes in note-taking in Chinese-English consecutive interpreting based on the interpreting of a mock conference of the 2nd Parenting Summit in Sichuan. In this thesis, mistakes in note-taking are analysed and solutions are proposed.First, based on a review of related literature, the author summarizes the goal and feature of note-taking for consecutive interpreting.Second,by analysing the transcriptions and notes, the author defines three major mistakes in note-taking:incomplete rendition of information on notes, ineffective note-taking and a lack of logic on notes. The causes behind include source language not being fully processed, ineffective use of symbols, improper noting of key words, repeated information on notes, improper layout and missing of logic on notes. To deal with these issues, the author puts forward three coping strategies including proper distribution of effort between listening and note-taking,effective use of symbols and optimizing layout,in order to avoid mistakes and improve interpreting performance.
