Logical Mistakes And Coping Strategies In English-Chinese Consecutive Interpreting

Logic plays an important role in presenting ideas and structures in interpretating,and determines the quality of output in target language,which is Chinese in English to Chinese consecutive interpretating.Only by thoroughly understanding the logic of source language can interpreters better present speaker’s intention to listeners.The thesis first emphasizes the importance of logic in English to Chinese consecutive interpreting,and analyzes the differences between English and Chinese.Based on the analysis of the author’s interpreting output at the mock conference on refugee education during the COVID-19 pandemic,the thesis lists three common mistakes of handling the logic,namely the absence of logic,incorrect logic and unnecessary logic.The thesis also analyzes the possible causes based on specific examples from three key stages in interpreting: listening and analysis,note-taking and output.Finally,the thesis lists feasible measures to cope with problems in the three stages,including better analyzing the logic of source language,standardizing note-taking symbols and structure,and improving output accuracy.The thesis then offers strategies to improve the logic of target language in English to Chinese consecutive interpreting,hoping to provide reference and reflection for interpreting learners and interpreters who face similar challenges.
