The fact that China is a main importer of publications entails that the main concern of the related study is the translation quality of imported publications. What plays a crucial part in it is the readability of translation.Currently, the field of translation readability is still looking for systematic indicators and case studies, which gives rise to this thesis. This paper analyzes two real translation projects and proposes both indicators applicable to a wider pool of translated publications and solutions to improve the readability of translations in question. This thesis first defines the concepts of ‘readability’ and ‘readability of translation’.Then,it draws from current studies indicators of readability and proposes the strategies.Readability indicators consist of three levels: lexical, sentence, and discourse. At lexical level, the translator should utilize four-character idiomatic and non-idiomatic phrases,as well as pay attention to restricting possible senses of a word.At sentence level, the translator should avoid writing lengthy or complex clauses. At discourse level, the translator may pay attention to the cohesion of the text and check its thematic progression. This thesis will present a case study to the field of readability,as well as providing primary indicators of readability of translation. |
