Through literature review,this thesis summarizes the relevant theories put forward by scholars at home and abroad on the impact of extra-linguistic knowledge on Chineseto-English interpretation,and analyzes the positive effect of extra-linguistic knowledge on interpretation and the negative impact of the lack of extra-linguistic knowledge.The thesis analyzes the lack of extra-linguistic knowledge on note taking and expression respectively.It analyzes the impact in three aspects: logic,information and language quality.Based on interpretation learning and practical experience,the thesis further puts forward strategies of acquiring knowledge and measures that can be taken in the absence of extra-linguistic knowledge.Before the interpreting task,interpreters can supplement their extra linguistic knowledge by reading news,so as to lay a solid foundation for improving the quality of interpreting.At the same time,after getting the interpreting task and prior to interpreting,interpreters should make full use of the materials provided by the speaker,such as Power Point or pictures,to quickly get familiar with jargons.While interpreting,interpreters should pay attention to the key information,ensure that the main content can be conveyed to the audience,and make bold and reasonable assumptions based on the context,so as to conquer the obstacles caused by the lack of extra-linguistic knowledge.At the same time,when encountering unknown extra-linguistic knowledge,interpreters should not become anxious.They should learn to keep a calm mindset,without being too nervous or too relaxed.They should reasonably allocate their energy and try their best to mobilize existing knowledge to deliver high-quality interpreting.
