Possible Solutions To Improper Pauses In Chinese To English Consecutive Interpretation

As you may know,English and Chinese languages contains multiple differences.During the process of Chinese-English interpreting,the existing differences in sentence structure and metaphorical meanings,often causes issues in Chinese expressions.The Thesis will focus on the speech delivered by Mr.Zhu Min at the 2019 Shenzhen China IT summit mock conference.Critical issues of the interpretation were firstly,improper pauses caused by the lack of understanding of Chinese syntax;secondly,improper pauses caused by the lack of technologic terminology and its related fields knowledge;thirdly,improper pauses caused by note-taking mistakes.The Thesis focuses on the analysis of improper causes that lasted over 0.3 seconds and puts forward some strategies from three aspects.Firstly,improving the overall understanding of Chinese syntax;secondly,advance preparation on related terminology;thirdly,improve the overall efficiency,effectiveness and completeness of consecutive interpretation note-taking.This Thesis hopes to provide some possible solutions towards improper pauses during consecutive interpretation.
