Self-Repair is an interpreter’s self-initiation without interlocutors’ intervention. This process, although is a method to correct mistakes,at the same time it has a big effect on fluency, which is an important criteria of interpretation quality assessment. At the mock conference of Xi Jinping’s speech at the first Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in 2017,the author made a lot of self-repairs.This study first introduces the definition and classification of self-repair while focusing on self-repair examples that appeared in the case study. The author classifies it into information error repairs and language error repairs. The author is translating into his native language. However, language error repairs are the most frequent because native speakers are tent to make very few mistakes in their mother language.Hence, once language error occurs,it can be easily spotted and corrected. Then the author discusses the reasons for self-repair and coping strategies, which are an improper allocation of effort, insufficient note-taking ability and fast translators’ speaking speed. As for coping strategies, they include proper allocation of effort, optimizing note-taking skills, adjustment of speaking speed, reducing unnecessary self-repair,and flexible handling of translators’ output. |
