Effort Imbalance And Coping Strategies In Japanese-Chinese Simultaneous Interpreting

In simultaneous interpretation,the interpreter needs to process multiple tasks within a limited time.Gile’s effort distribution model proposes that the interpreter needs to complete the tasks of listening and analysis,short-term memory and speech in the simultaneous interpretation.Therefore,how to coordinate various tasks and the distribution of energy is a key factor affecting the quality of interpretation.In the Japanese-Chinese simultaneous interpretation,the different word order of Japanese and Chinese,and Chinese-Japanese homonym are likely to cause imbalance in the energy distribution of the interpreter,resulting in a decline in the quality of the interpreted language.At first,the paper combines the results of previous studies and summarizes the causes of imbalanced effort distribution as insufficient language knowledge,insufficient cognitive knowledge,overload,language phenomena that interfere with attention,and psychological qualities.Then,based on the language characteristics of Japanese and Chinese,the author believes that the different word order is likely to increase the interpreter’s memory effort,resulting in imbalance in effort distribution.Because of the imbalance of effort distribution,interpreters are likely to use Chinese-Japanese homonym directly,affecting the speech.The case selected by the author in this paper comes from a mock simultaneous interpretation conference of the Soft Bank Group settlement conference,and the author adopts the research methods of transliteration and comparison between the source language and the interpreted language,and classifies and analyzes the causes of the imbalanced effort distribution.The author believes that the lack of language knowledge and cognitive knowledge require interpreters to allocate more effort to listening and comprehension tasks,resulting in insufficient effort in other tasks,and the intensive source language information and irregular digital information will lead to overload of effort.Both the conversion of currency units and the phenomenon of self-correction will disturb the interpreter’s attention,and the interpreter’s psychological quality is also an important factor affecting the distribution of effort.According to the analysis results,the author summarizes the coping strategies for the imbalance of effort distribution.Interpreters need to accumulate language knowledge and cognitive knowledge,increase listening training,and make a professional glossaries before interpretation to deal with the problem of insufficient knowledge;adopt a translation strategy that focuses on listening and comprehension,grasping coreinformation,and deleting redundant information,and perform digital exercises and memory exercises can deal with overload problems;reduce self-correction,improve the quality of corrections,and prepare for interpretation to deal with some attention disturbance problems;interpreters also need to reduce psychological pressure in interpreting and improve psychological quality for a long time.
