In the textbook of Chinese as a foreign language,the setting of characters and their role functions often have their deep intention.As we all know,the presentation of the content of the textbook,the output of knowledge and so on,can not be separated from some scenes set by the editor,and the scene is composed of the characters.The country,gender,age,especially the relationship between the characters usually determine the way they interact in various scenes,and this interaction mode presents the characteristics of Chinese culture in the specific scene,which makes the learners of the textbook not only accept Chinese knowledge,but also "watch" and experience the Chinese culture in the scene.Therefore,if our Chinese textbook undertakes the function of spreading Chinese culture,then there is no doubt that the development and utilization of the character setting and its role function in the textbook is related to the important task of how to present or spread Chinese culture concretely.This paper holds that all the characters in the textbook play a specific "role" in each specific scene,and the "role",as far as its essence is concerned,lies in that it undertakes the corresponding function of its identity.In order to present Chinese culture reasonably and appropriately in the textbook of Chinese as a foreign language,we should study thecharacter setting and its function as a "role" in the textbook.It can also be said that reasonable character design can not only run through the content of the text,increase the interest,rationality and authenticity of the text corpus,but also reasonably permeate the Chinese culture and carry forward the Chinese culture.Based on Krashen undefineds theory of second language acquisition-input hypothesis,sociolinguistics theory,Piagetundefineds cognitive development theory and cognitive linguistics theory,and combined with the compiling principles of Chinese as a foreign language textbook,this paper proposes that characters as roles should usually undertake four functions in Chinese as a foreign language textbook,namely,supporting dialogue function,stylistic presentation function,connection function,cultural development and communication function.In other words,in the Chinese as a foreign language textbook,characters,as a separate individual,show different roles in different scenes,and each role should also show different functions in different situations.Based on the above theoretical cognition,taking ?learn Chinese with me?(?,II)as an example,this paper makes a concrete analysis of the imperfections of the character role setting and its functional design.The paper holds that there is still a certain gap in the setting and function utilization of personas in Learning Chinese from me compared with the widely renowned ?Family Album U.S.A.?.The successful experience of theformer should be drawn from the continuous improvement of Chinese teaching materials in China.Finally,based on the four functions of personas,the paper tries to create a scene of Chinese as a foreign language textbook.The characters in the scene are set up from the perspective of Chinese family culture.This is because,in the understanding of Chinese culture,family culture occupies a core position in Chinese cultural ethics.Although this scene design is superficial,the paper is to provide some useful ideas for the character design in the compilation of Chinese as a foreign language textbook.
