On The Translation And Dissemination Of Martial Arts Spirit In Legends Of The Condor Heroes

Based on Compositional Translatology,the thesis studies the translation and dissemination of martial arts spirit in the translation of Jin Yong’s martial arts fiction Legends of the Condor Heroes.First of all,according to the elements of the fiction,the thesis classifies the representation of the martial arts spirit.Among them,the characters’ actions,fighting scenes and their names and sects directly represent the martial arts spirit;the dialogue,basic information and living scenes indirectly represent the spirit.Secondly,the thesis analyzes the translation strategies of the translation.The translators use parts of speech conversion and words addition and deletion and other methods to translate the characters’ actions,use text explanation and appendix annotation and other methods to translate the names,nicknames and schools in the wulin of the characters,and use the methods such as direct correspondence to translate the martial arts scenes and living scenes.Thirdly,the thesis discusses the translation in three aspects from the perspective of “three matching in yi(meaning),ti(genre)and qi(literary strength)”:content transmission,style correspondence and thought representation.Finally,by analyzing the readers’ book reviews of the translation on Amazon.com,it is concluded that the fiction translation has been disseminated to a certain extent in the English world,but the strength still needs to be strengthened,and the methods of dissemination should keep up with the times.The research shows that the translation and dissemination of the martial arts spirit in the translation of Legends of the Condor Heroes is generally good,but there are still a few inadequacies.The thesis holds that before translation,the translator of martial arts fictions should fully understand the personal profile and background of the original author.In the process of translation,translating martial arts fictions should be regarded as an important way to spread Chinese culture,so as to achieve “belle translation for belle letters”.After translation,choosing an appropriate publishing house will be benefit for spreading the translation,and then for spreading Chinese culture.
