A Study Of C-E Translation Strategies In The English Version Of Legends Of The Condor Heroes(Vol.Ⅰ):A Hero Born From The Perspective Of Eco-Translatology

Shediao Yingxiong Zhuan is a masterpiece of Jin Yong’s mid-term martial arts novels.This novel achieves a great success and establishes a leading position for Jin Yong’s martial arts novels.His novels are worthy of Chinese literary classics.However,covered by considerable Chinese elements,translation and studies on translation of martial arts novels remain to be developed.On February 22^nd,2018,the English version of Shediao Yingxiong Zhuan,Legends of the Condor Heroes（Vol.Ⅰ）:A Hero Born,was released.This version is translated by a Swedish translator Anna Holmwood（Her Chinese name is Hao Yuqing）.Legends of the Condor Heroes（Vol.Ⅰ）:A Hero Born is the first official English version since Shediao Yingxiong Zhuan was published 60 years ago.This English version has an important reference for the spread of Chinese traditional culture,translation of martial arts novels as well as Chinese literature“going global”.In addition,based on Darwin’s principle of“Natural Selection,Survival of the Fittest”,Eco-Translatology puts a new interpretation on the nature,process,standards and methods of translation from the perspective of“selection”and“adaptation”.Eco-Translatology provides a new point of view for explanation for translation.Therefore,this thesis chooses Legends of the Condor Heroes（Vol.Ⅰ）:A Hero Born as the research object.A comprehensive analysis of translation strategies in this English version from the perspective of Eco-Translatology is conducted on translational eco-environment,adaption and selection,and multi-dimensional transformations.In this thesis,translation strategies refer to domestication and foreignization.From the perspective of Eco-Translatology,translation strategy is selected on the basis of the translator’s adaption to translational eco-environment from multi-dimensional transformations.The author of this thesis presents how translational eco-environment affects the selection of translation strategies,then further analysis of translation strategies is conducted from the translator’s adaptive selection and transformations at three dimensions,including linguistic dimension,cultural dimension and communicative dimension.This thesis has found that there are a lot of adaptive selection and transformations in these three dimensions in the English version.The translator Hao Yuqing mainly adopts domestication to adapt to the translational eco-environment of the target language,and she regards accurate information transmission of the source text as the most important respects,so she mainly chooses to obey the ecological environment of the target language to adapt to the target readers.Under the principle of not affecting information expression of the source text,the translator adopts foreignization to keep the cultural environment of the source text.This thesis is aimed at making a comprehensive analysis of translation strategies in Legends of the Condor Heroes（Vol.I）:A Hero Born from the perspective of Eco-Translatology theory,exploring the translation of martial arts novels,and promoting the development of the translation of martial arts novels.
