| The author was enrolled in the internship program as a junior terminology officer at the Chinese Section of International Telecommunication Union(ITU)in Geneva from January 1st to June 30th,2018.ITU is the United Nations specialized agency for information and communication technologies(ICTs).The Chinese Section of ITU fulfills the duty of the English-Chinese or Chinese-English translation of documents or publications.As an intern at the Chinese Section,the author was mainly involved in the written translation of certain types of documents.Based on the author’s translation of ITU documents from English to Chinese,the report includes an introduction to the background,time management,translation tools,quality control and the translation methods of the practice.The author intends to provide an overview of her translation internship at ITU,which could be helpful to students who are willing to be engaged in the translation practice for international organizations such as the United Nations,especially the very organization where the author interned at.More importantly,the report analyzes the characteristics of ITU documents and the translation methods employed,which may be useful for improving translation skills.Examples are given to illustrate the translation strategies used.In this report,the author reviews her internship experience and summarizes her gains through the program. |
