The CIG-Series designed by Bart Vanhecke(1964-,Belgium)in 1997 divided his works into two phases.The orchestral Danse de la terre was completed in 2010 and it is one of his masterpieces in his second phase.This dissertation through this work,it is aimed to probe a new idea for composing serial and atonal music.This dissertation first explains the method of constructing the pitch of CIG-Series and based on the definition of atonal series in Brindle’s serial Composition.In addition,it also explains a set of rhythm patterns corresponding to serial pitches designed by Vanhecke for Danse de la terre,and analyzes the score to illustrate the application of CIG-Series in this work.At last,through three points to explain the compositional techniques and thinkings in Danse de la terre.
