Clarinet is a woodwind instrument and its characters are very flexible. It has splendid tone, wide range, rich performance, all these features make it have romantic color. Clarinet’s splendid tone is most appreciated by composers, so it often plays the role of melody sole in the band.Poulenc is one of the most important composer in the time of neoclassicism.Neoclassicism is an important school of Western musical composition in the first half of the 20 thcentury, especially between the two World Wars, its appearance has intimate relationship with social and historical environment at that time. Neoclassicism requires the perfect equilibrium of art as a whole, pursues properly reasonable emotion, revives quantities of pre-romanticism musical forms, adopts clear tonality, abandons Wagner’s semitone syllable. Clear melody line replaces romantic chord texture, rhythm is symmetric and regular. The color is neither strong like romanticism nor fastidious like impressionism.Clarinet’s “Sonata” was created in 1862, was one of the last works by Poulenc. I want to let more people understand the creation style of Poulenc’s works and make people more easily perform Poulenc’s clarinet works by studying Poulenc clarinet Sonata’s musical form and fingering. I believe the study of this work has its values. This paper is mainly divided into three parts: introduction, main body and conclusion.
