| This report is based on the English-Chinese translation practice of the author.The translation practice is the translation of the first six chapters of Bill Ney’s Comic History of England,and the report discusses how George Steiner’s hermeneutics translation theory was implemented into the translation practice through some relevant cases.Comic History of England is a text which introduces English history in a unique way.The author of this report consults a lot of English history and culture in the process of pre-translation preparation,and finds that this book involves many interesting descriptions of historical events,which causes great difficulties for the translation work.Among many translation theories,the author of this report believes that hermeneutics is applicable to the translation of the source text.As to many historical cultures,figures and events,the author of this report needs to translate it objectively.However,the unique way of writing and expression requires her to make full use of translation strategies.In addition to the application of the theory and strategies,the whole translation process also needs her cultural knowledge reserve,the grasp of key and difficult points and the ability to select appropriate words in translation.The author of this report makes a careful analysis of the difficulties encountered in translating Comic History of England based on the four steps of George Steiner’s hermeneutics: trust,aggression,incorporation and restitution.Furthermore,the author of this report classifies the cases and analyzes the translation with specific examples and corresponding translation strategies and techniques.The report explores how George Steiner’s hermeneutics translation theory guides the author in solving the problems encountered at all stages of the translation process.Finally,the author of this report points out some deficiencies in the translation report.Then she summarizes the experience and inspiration gained in the process of translation practice,hoping to provide relevant reference for future translation of similar texts. |
