A Study On The Founding Process Of Montelius' Archeological Typology Method

Gustaf Oscar Augustin Montelius(1843-1921),a famous Swedish archeologist,has made fruitful researches on prehistoric culture in Northern Europe.After graduating from the Uppsala University in 1869,Montelius devoted his whole life to the study of prehistoric culture of Northern Europe.In the study of the prehistoric culture of Northern Europe,Italy,and Greece by Montelius,he summarized and used typological methods to judge the relative age and the early late relationship of artifacts.In the first chapter Methodology of Oriental and European Cultural Periods published in 1903,Montelius introduced his typology method in detail.This method had a huge impact on the development of world archeology,and Montelius made a huge contribution to the development of archeology.From the perspective of archeological history,this article intends to take the Swedish archeologist Montelius and his typological research methods as the research object,and use chronological order as the main clue to try to show the great archeologist's life.The stages and the corresponding stages of archeological research,as well as the source and development process of his typological methods.
