Call Me by Your Name is an English novel written by American writer Andre Aciman and published in 2007.The novel won the best gay fiction of the 20 th Lambda Literary Awards. There are currently two versions of Chinese translations. The first version was translated by Quan Jin and published by China Friendship Press in 2012.The second edition was translated by Wu Yanrongand published by Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press in 2018.Based on the Cohesion and Coherence Theory, this thesis aims to compare and analyze the processing of the same text in the two Chinese translations of the English novel Call Me by Your Name from the perspective of cohesion and coherence. The major findings are as follows:(1)In Quan's version, the cohesive and coherent components in a sentence tend to be literally translated, and conjunctions are often added out of the translator's subjective cognition;in Wu's translation, the cohesive and coherent components in a sentence tend to be freely translated, and often omitted.(2)In Quan's translation, sentences with complex constituents and structure tend to be translated in accordance with the order and structure of the original text, and no adjustments are made;while in Wu's translation, sentences with complex constituents and structure are adjusted and changed in order to make the text cohesive and coherent, more in line with Chinese characteristics.(3)In Quan's translations, there is no compensation for the apparently incoherent translation after the literal translation;while in Wu's translation, translation strategies such as repetition, addition, and anaphora are used to compensate for the inconsistencies.
