The growing demand for energy is driving people to look for alternative energy, and the best option for the moment is probably a renewable energy — NGH(natural gas hydrate),which is also regarded as a strategic alternative source of oil and gas in the future owning to its advantages such as high combustion value, small pollution and large reserves. Therefore, the translation of the text about NGH into Chinese will provide an important reference for the development of NGH in China. The translator selected Chapter 5 and 6 in the book Exploration and Production of Oceanic Natural Gas Hydrate: Critical Factors for Commercialization to translate and made a report on the translation task. The selected chapters mainly introduce the new opportunities for the assessment of NGH deposits and the exploration of NGH.In the process of translation, the translator, under the guidance of Skopos Theory, analyzed the cases from the perspectives of vocabulary, syntax and discourse respectively and summarized the translation skills of EST(English for Science and Technology)to provide reference for translators and NGH researchers in this field. The translation report consists of four parts: Task Description,Process Description,Case Analysis, and Conclusion. The translator enhanced the ability of applying theory to practice during the translation process.
