The vocabulary size is prerequisite for learning English, but some high school students find it challenging to remember English words, always forgetting the previous ones, and lacking fun.The purpose of this study is to stimulate students' interest in English learning by using original English movies with different subtitles. At the same time,we can know the effects of those movies on students' incidental vocabulary acquisition by comparing the difference of word form, word meaning, and vocabulary application. The author selected 103 students in the second grade of middle school from a particular city, they watched three videos on the same subject in succession, the ways of input of those films are different, which include non-subtitled movies,Chinese subtitled movies, and English subtitled movies. Then, the author compared different effects of movies with various types of subtitles on students' incidental vocabulary acquisition, the overall effects and effects from different dimensions. The study results indicate that:(1)Vocabulary can be acquired incidentally by the three different ways of input to a large extent;(2)By comparing the three groups' mean.English subtitled group is better than the Chinese subtitled group, the Chinese subtitled group are better than non-subtitled group.(3)In terms of word form, the English subtitled group is better than the Chinese subtitled group, and the Chinese subtitled group is better than the non-subtitled group. In terms of vocabulary application, the English subtitled group is approximately equal to the Chinese subtitled group, those two groups are better than non-subtitled group. The English subtitled group can be acquired with the same applied vocabulary knowledge and more morphological knowledge than the Chinese subtitled group, but in the word sense dimension, there is no significant difference in the vocabulary acquisition of non-subtitled group,Chinese subtitled group, and English subtitled group.
