In recent years, as an important means of language input and an important skillin international communication, there has been growing attention to Englishlistening. With the college English teaching reform of our country, listeningteaching has occupied a large proportion in the whole English teaching system.Through a semester’s teaching practice, faced with the fact thattime-consuming and inefficient, derailing the practical application, and students’various skills often can not acquire synchronous development in the traditionallistening teaching, this research puts forward the suggests of listening teachingassisted by original English movies based on Krashen’s Input Hypothesis andConstructivism theory, i.e., movie-assisted teaching approach. Compared withtraditional listening teaching, movie-assisted teaching approach can create a betterlanguage environment, and effectively reduce student anxiety, stimulate students’interest and enthusiasm in learning. This accords with Krashen’s Affective FilterHypothesis and Motivation theory.In the whole process of teaching experiments, two natural classes of80sophomore students of non-English majors from Shenyang Normal University wererandomly chosen as the subjects of this study. Each class has forty studentsrespectively. The experimental class applied audio materials assisted by originalEnglish movies, and designed and arranged appropriate teaching procedures andactivities according to the requirements of the study. While the control class onlyused the New Horizon College English Listening and Speaking Course for listeningmaterials and did some written exercises. The scores of pre-test and post-testbetween the control group and the experimental group were analyzed by thesoftware SPSS18.0, which clearly displayed the contrast between effectiveness ofthe two teaching methods.The conclusion can be drawn from the present study that most of the students have a positive attitude to listening teaching assisted by original English movies,which has obvious advantages than textbook-based teaching. It is a practicable andeffective way of listening teaching assisted by original English movies to improvestudents’ listening ability. It can stimulate students’ interest in learning English,thereby enhance the students’ enthusiasm and initiative of learning English, improvestudents’ listening proficiency and have a significant effect on developing theirintegrated language skills in a relaxed classroom atmosphere full of interaction.Therefore, the new teaching method to improve students’ listening ability is feasibleand can achieve better effects than that of traditional listening teaching.According to the results of questionnaires, experimental data analysis, andpractical teaching experience, the thesis summarizes the teaching procedures andtypes of activities of listening teaching assisted by original English movies,describes teaching effects and the teacher’s role in this new teaching methods, alsopoints out the limitations of this study, and gives some suggestions for the futureresearch.
